It is our Labor Day classic Departing Quebec City Friday evening, heading to Maine. Strategic stop in St. Johnsbury for the first night, then heading to Boston Saturday morning after lunch.
❤️ Boston is truly our favorite. What we love is that the city is great for families: it's not too far by car from Quebec, it's not huge like New York, and you quickly feel at home. Plus, Boston is superb, with its mix of history, lively neighborhoods, and water views that give it incredible charm.
Day 1 – Boston Deep Dive: Aquarium, History, and Cruise
The city of Boston is quite large, it's difficult to do everything on foot. It's better to take the tourist tram, included with the Pass Go City !
We're going strong in Boston! The city is overflowing with family activities.
In the morning: New England Aquarium. Tropical fish, penguins, manta rays... children are fascinated for hours.
Dinner at the market: lots of small street food restaurants — tacos, burgers, fresh seafood. Perfect for a quick bite in a lively atmosphere.
The afternoon:
- Visit of the’USS Constitution (the oldest warship still afloat)
- Boston Observation Deck for a panoramic view of the city
- Harbor cruise — ideal for seeing Boston from the water
In the evening, heading to the Italian neighborhood For a dinner at an authentic restaurant: homemade pasta, family atmosphere, and an Italian dessert to finish the night in style.
Day 2 — Salem and Return to Boston
Morning in Hello — the mysterious atmosphere of the witch city operates instantly.
On the agenda:
- Stroll through the historic streets
- Salem Witch Museum captivating for all ages (and a little scary too)
Dinner at a local microbrewery — good food and craft beers in a relaxed atmosphere.
Return to Boston for the afternoon:
- Harvard Museum of Natural History — Dinosaur skeletons, giant crystals, butterflies… a paradise for the curious
- Old State House Museum — at the heart of American history
Day 3 — Last minute shopping before heading back
All morning at Wrentham Village Premium Outlets near Boston to take advantage of end-of-season specials.
Departing for Quebec in the early afternoon — we're returning with memories, stories to tell, and a few good deals.
Our favorites
- The Boston Aquarium — one of the best we've seen
- The harbor cruise — breathtaking view
- Salem and its mysterious atmosphere
- The Italian neighborhood for dinner
What we would do again (or not)
✅ We would redo:
- Aquarium and cruise combo on the same day
- The trip to Salem
- Harvard Museum of Natural History
We would do it differently:
- Take more time in the market to eat (too many choices!)
- Book popular attractions in advanceLabor Day = world)
